Selection Examination for the Second Batch of the MSc Biomedical Informatics

Application for enrolment to the MSc Biomedical Informatics


The PGIM is calling for application for the 2nd batch of the MSc Biomedical Informatics course commencing in April 2010. Biomedical Informatics is the discipline formed by the intersection of Computing, Medicine and Biology.

Course Duration: Two Years(Full Time).

Eligibility Criteria: The minimum of entry criteria will be one of the following qualifications.

  1. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) Degree or equivalent degree
  2. Bachelor of Dental Sciences (BDS) or equivalent degree
  3. Bachelor of Science Honours degree (Bsc(Honours)) in computer science or equivalent degree
  4. Bachelor of Science Honours degree in any health related or biomedicine related field (e.g. Nursing, Pharmacy, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Veterinary Science)

Those who have the qualifications mentioned in 1 and 2 above should have a Medical Degree registered with the Sri Lanka Medical Council and completed one year of medical experience after internship as at the date of closure of applications. Foreign nationals who seek registration in respect of the selection process should possess a medical degree registrable with the Sri Lanka Medical council. The registrability will be determined on a case by case basis.

Those who have qualifications mentioned in 3 and 4 above should have completed two years work related experience in a medical or health related work setting which is acceptable to the Board of Study.

Selection: 30 students would be selected following a selection examination which tests the candidates knowledge in basic informatics and health sciences.

Course Fee:

  • Local Candidates- Rs.100, 000.00
  • Candidates from SAARC and Vietnam – US$ 4,000.00
  • Other Candidates – US$ 8,000.00

NB. You are kindly advised to refer to the new regulations laid down by the Ministry of Health Care & Nutrition regarding the release of Medical Officers of the Department of Health in the PGIM web site.

Duly perfected application should be forwarded to the Director, Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, on or before 02nd December 2009.
